Insights from Fraud Analytics Research focusing on the Insurance Industry
Insurance fraud accounts for billions of dollars of lost funds each year to both the insurance companies and also the additional premiums charged to policyholders. Finding ways to detect and respond to insurance frauds is critical within the industry and has wider implications to other areas as fraud detection models are refined and used.
Please join us on 3 June 2021 to hear Dr Adrian Gepp and Lucy Ward discuss insurance fraud detection and fraud detection models that are assisting in preventing fraud in this area.
Dr Adrian Gepp Bio:
Dr Adrian Gepp is an Associate Professor of Statistics and the Higher Degree Research Director at the Bond Business School, Bond University. In his research as part of the Centre of Data Analytics, Adrian uses advanced statistical modelling to reveal unique insights about problems of economic and social importance. In addition to his award-winning research in fraud detection, Adrian researches in a wide-variety of areas including business failure prediction, health analytics, workplace design, marketing analytics and predictive modelling in business and finance. His excellence in research is demonstrated by more than $650,000 of external research funding, primarily from industry partners. In addition to specialising in industry-funded research projects, his research is published in top international academic journals and has been presented at leading international academic conferences. Adrian is also a former Vice-President of the ACFE Brisbane Chapter.
Lucy Ward Bio:
Lucy Ward is an Associate of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia. She completed her Bachelor of Actuarial Science (Honours) at Bond University and wrote her thesis ‘Identifying Motor Insurance Claims Fraud Using Modern Data Analytics and Machine Learning’ under the supervision of Dr. Adrian Gepp. Lucy has worked in the General Insurance Industry for nearly 5 years and has recently taken on a Manager Analytics role.
